Thame Runners 1st “Naked” Run.

Not quite how it sounds. This was promoted by our very able Social Secretary Peter Neal, inspired by an idea from Ben and Shelley Bennett, who visited the Land of Oz last year and whilst on their holiday took part in a naked park run.

This didn’t involve shedding any clothes, even though the weather was hot enough to fry eggs on the pavement. No, this is a run where you have to estimate your individual finishing time over a measured course. All watches, Garmins and other electronic timing aids are then given up so each runner has no idea what time they’re going to finish. The object is to finish as close to the estimated time as possible.

Not one of our 21 participants went over their times. On the contrary, the majority were way out with their predictions but it was a fun event. Grabbing the winning bottle of Prosecco was our club newcomer Ming Ewe, who was only 24 seconds off her mark, which isn’t too bad really. Next best was Ben Bennett, who obviously had a bit of previous in this venture, and third was Annie Roads. Well done to all those who made the effort.

2017 Club Handicap

There hasn’t been many occasions where our club handicap takes place under leaden skies with accompanying wind and rain, it’s just not what you expect at the beginning of August. However, that’s what we had to put up with and 14 club members braved the conditions over the traditional two lap course around Moreton.

A lot of fairly new faces lined up for this year’s dash along with many recognisable ones and it was one of our newbies, Gwen Harris who came home first, just under half a minute ahead of her nearest challengers, club stalwarts Steph Cook and Dave Hartwell. Gwen was presented with the Steve Hawes Memorial Trophy by club chairman Chris Downs before we all made a quick exit for home, or in some cases it was a visit to the Racquets bar for refreshment.
