February 12th 2011 – Wing
An excellent points haul in match 5 at Wing, the final race of the Chiltern XC League helped Thame Runners overturn a lead of 50 points going into the race and elevate the team one place to finish 4th overall in the 2nd division. The club continues year on year to build a committed and strong XC squad, so another excellent result in 2011 to celebrate and the second best position in the clubs long history.
It was easy to understand why there were so many DNFs at Wing this year, as the deep mud through the series gates prised a number of spkies and trainers away from runners feet. The marshalls bravely entered the bog to retreive them and by the end of the last race of the day, there was quite an array of footwear piled up to be reclaimed. Elenor and Damian Stanley were the two DNFs for Thame, and now it all makes sense ! Dad must have tought the kids to tie shoelaces in that family ! Sorry Damo, it had to be said.
The awards ceremony afterwards was well worth staying for, as Thame took honours in several team and individual categories in Division 2 as follows:
. Howard Papworth, 2nd Place V50
. Andrew Byerley, 2nd Place V40
. Ladies Vet Team, 3rd Place
. Mens Vet Team, 2nd Place
. Mens Overall, 3rd Place
So all in all a very successfull campaign for the club again. Well done to all who took part. The medals will be awarded at the annual dinner and prize giving on 26th March 2011.
