The inaugural Snowdonia Marathon was held in 1982, and conceived as a dramatic alternative to the numerous city and town races becoming so popular.

The demanding and spectacular route, starting from Nant Peris village and encircling Snowdon, Wales’ and England’s highest peak, has given the event a unique place in the annual marathon calendar ever since.  With such spectacular scenary on offer Thame Runners have regularly sent a contingent of finely tuned specimens to compete and this the 25th Snowdonia Marathon was no exception with the trio of Darren, Carol and Patsy all running brilliantly again.

Five time winner Dennis Walmsley (pictured) a taxi driver from Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, was beaten into third place by Shaun Milford of Newquay Road Runners in a winning time of 02:41:28 and second placed John Allen of Bridgenorth AC (02:46:50).

Poor Reg Gale had to drop out of this years challenge at the last minute due to Asthma bought on by a chesty cough and cold.  Darren Readman however was in fine tune finishing in 04:24:03, which was just one minute ahead of Reg’s time of 2006, so next years event promises to be a battle if both men are fit and well.  A little further down the field came Patsy and Carol who decided to run together this year and narrowly missed the 5 hour mark with chipped times of 05:00:54 and 05:00:55 respectively.  Patsy ran the last 10 miles feeling really ill and did very well to finish at all.
